Notice of Property Tax Increase
The Rome City Commission announces its intention to hold a Public Hearing concerning the proposed 2024 millage tax rate at a called meeting on Thursday, July 18th, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
The third and final Public Hearing, along with the Public Hearing to adopt the millage rate, will take place at the City Commission meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 22nd, 2024 at 6:30 p.m.
Both meetings will be held at City Hall, 601 Broad Street.
The proposed combined rates for the Rome City Government and City Schools of 26.25 will result in a decrease of the millage rate from the prior year but will be an increase of 7.0% (1.72) over the calculated rollback rate for City M&O, City Capital, and City School Tax. The City is proposing to decrease the City M&O rate from 7.8 to 7.75, City Capital from 1.8 to 1.75, and City School Tax from 16.85 to 16.75 with a total City of Rome Tax Rate of 26.25 Mills. For a non-homestead property, the estimated City and City School tax for a current $250,000 market valued home would have been $2,645 in 2023. At the proposed rate for 2024 of 26.25 Mills, the estimated tax will be $2,625. At the 2024 roll back rate, the estimated tax would be $2,453. For a non-homestead property with a fair market value of $175,000 the proposed 2024 rate of 26.25 Mills would be $1,838 compared to the rollback rate of 24.529 and $1,717, a 7.0% increase.
All concerned citizens are invited to these public hearings.
